Kansas has priorities

You have to hand it to Kansas . . . they really know what their priorities are.

High unemployment. Not a problem.

Huge budget shortfalls. Not a problem.

Rising health care costs. Not a problem.

Declining educational budgets. Not a problem.

Half naked women dancing in strip clubs. Ohhhhh, now we have a problem!!!

Seriously, this is just another good example of why Kansas ( and all these Midwestern states ) suck so damn much. Although I typically try to keep from doing the Republican vs Democrat vs Independent vs etc . . . thing, the fact that states like Kansas are dominated by what passes for a Republican these days is a large part of the problem. Some ass that manages to get elected by appealing to the segment of the population that decides they believe in Christian family values. Then, in order to appease them he ( or she ) decides to try passing legislating morality of some kind.

The bill would prohibit strip clubs, adult stores and other sexually oriented businesses from locating within 1,000 feet of schools, libraries, public parks, licensed day-care centers and houses of worship. Sexually oriented businesses would have to close from midnight to 6 a.m. Nudity would be outlawed, and dancers could be seminude but would have to remain at least 6 feet away from patrons.

I haven't visited a titty-bar since I was in the military. I was pretty young and experiencing my first real amount of freedom. Even then I realized that going to watch strippers was kind of stupid. It wasn't as if they were going to go home with me - I was simply handing over my money to a pair of boobies that were dancing before my horny, little eyes.

And, to be honest, what is wrong with that? No one got hurt. No one died. Not one little innocent pair of eyes were forced to gaze upon naked human flesh that didn't want to in the first place.

I've always thought that people ran for public office because they wanted to make a difference in people's lives and make the world a better place. But then I moved to Kansas and realized that those in public office actually got there so they could pursue their own personal agendas.

I swear, I can't find a way out of this state fast enough.

California, I salute you

In 1986 I moved to the Midwest from Southern California. Why? Well, it's a long story meant for its own post one of these days.

Today, however, is one of those days when I wonder to myself why I ever moved. I can't really say that I've ever got into the Midwestern mindset. While I've met people I certainly don't have a problem getting along with, most people from this region really aren't very open minded.

The biggest example, in my opinion, of this is pot. One of the biggest recreational activities is to consume mass quantities of alcohol, but god forbid you even think about smoking a joint.

I remember shortly after I moved to Nebraska a person who was underage asked me to buy some alcohol for him. Later that night as we cruised the main strip in town looking for some hotties I went out on a limb and asked him if he knew where to get some pot. I was pretty buzzed from the Peppermint Schnapps and had forgotten where I'd moved to. He responded as if I had asked him if I could have anal sex with his mom, seriously.

We still were friends, but just didn't really hang out that much anymore. I found friends that smoked and it was finally nice to meet people that were more open minded. But still a part of me missed Southern California. Beaches, babes and buds.

That's why the part in me that has considered moving back to California has found new light at the end of the tunnel. It is almost certain that marijuana legalization will be on the ballot in California. I couldn't possibly think of a better reason to move back.

You would never see something so progressive happen here in Topeka fucking Kansas. God no!! It doesn't matter that they could realize a shit-ton of money in taxes because of it. And you have to admit, you'd think that would be reason enough. But, the bible-thumping politicians probably think it would be political suicide to even suggest it to their anal-retentive, conservative constituency.

So, it's just one more person that will be watching this decision and take their tax dollars west to state that is a hell of a lot more progressive.

I voted

I voted today.

The line was short, maybe 20 people in front of me.

There was a little confusion as to which building people were to go to at The Light of the World Christian Church. If you lived East of Gage you were supposed to go to one building, and if you lived West of Gage you were supposed to use a different building.

But no signs posted anywhere let you know this.

I originally started out in the wrong line, but some nice lady ( who already stood in the wrong line in the wrong building ) let us know when she got in my line.

I still made it to work on time.

So what's holding you up? Be a part of history.

Vote.
