Scary movie night?

I sat down with the family tonight to watch Paranormal Activity tonight. I was under the impression that it was supposed to be pretty scary. I've got to tell you though, it really didn't do it for me.

The movie is adequate for such a low budget. From what I've heard it only cost roughly 15K to make. From what I saw, I could believe it. The cast only consists of about 4 actors and the set appears to be condo or house in the San Diegan suburbs. They didn't waste a lot of money on special effects or famous actors.

The entire movie consists of a couple in their suburban home. The two aren't married and the girl has some kind of paranormal entity that has resurfaced time and again since she was about 8 years old. Her boyfriend decides to start recording things even after she asks him to stop. Strange things happen and they are caught on tape.

The biggest dilemma for me was the overall story. I guess I just didn't get it. Believability was a major factor. I just couldn't buy it. If you watch the alternate ending on the dvd, that one is even less believable.

You won't get two thumbs up from me on this movie. It's just OK as far as I'm concerned.
